cold air

Overnight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -8. Wind chill values between -17 and -22. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow before 9am, then a chance for flurries before ending. Cloudy, with a high near 8. Wind chill values between -9 and -19. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

I think of you in the cold, dark northern morning and wish I could be still asleep in your bed. And I envy you the solitary quiet that blankets the plains. Burning the lights at 5 a.m. Then going outside and breathing cold air.

We don't usually get the scenic overview in life. The high vantage point can seem downright impossible to access on some days. Getting someplace or making decisions without the advantage of vantage is one of the necessities of life. It's just the way it is. May we all do our best today.

the first day...

How do I allow myself to get so sidetracked from what I need to do in this life? The conversations we have while waking are no more lucid than those when we sleep. Truth slips in, but do we really know enough to distinguish delusion from truth?

I've been watching a lot of movies now that I'm back working at the video store. In case you missed it at the Wisconsin Film Festival, the documentary Our Brand Is Crisis came out earlier this month on DVD. Filmmaker Rachel Boynton takes us on a fascinating ride, following U.S. campaign consultants with the firm [[Greenberg Carville Shrum]] and their client [w:Bolivia|Bolivian] presidential candidate [w:Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada|Gonzalo "Goni" Sanchez de Lozada].
