real or fantasy?

When I met you in the restaurant
You could tell I was no debutante
You asked me what's my pleasure
A movie or a measure?
I'll have a cup of tea and tell you of my dreaming
Dreaming is free
I don't want to live on charity
Pleasure's real or is it fantasy?
Reel to reel is living rarity
People stop and stare at me
We just walk on by - we just keep on dreaming
Feet feet, walking a two mile
Meet meet, meet me at the turnstile
I never met him, I'll never forget him

Before blogging and before everyone had cell phones, I went to [http://www.reed.edu|college] in [w:Portland, OR]. It was 1988. I was 25 pounds heavier, scared of boys (and a lot of girls), and desperate for friends. First thing I learned: having two thousand miles between me and anyone who knew me felt really good. There is a great deal of freedom in anonymity. In school, I was mostly an academic failure. But I had friends; fell in love with Portland, the ocean and my bike; played lots of music; and learned to party like the rockstar I wanted to be. It was my first big step towards becoming my current self.

I-90 near Buffalo, WY

Hi folks. The site is back up after a few months hiatus. I was working. Then I hit the road. So, I'm only back in the virtual sense.

monona terrace ducks

How quaint ... ducks and Monona Terrace. I'll be there bright and early tomorrow morning to staff a table at a job fair. I'd rather be outside, of course, marvelling at the duck, geese and swans. "It's like Club Med for ducks," my friend Liz says about this spot.

I moved here nearly 12 years ago. The lakes were frozen. And there was a lot of snow. After living 6 years in the drizzly Pacific Northwest, I was happy to be in weather that produced such clear, bright days. Walking on the lakes was a mind expanding experience. How often do you get to have a completely different perspective on where you live? Maybe taking off from Dane County Regional. Or if you have a boat. Or [http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Madison+WI&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=43.073151,-89.373093&spn=0.019186,0.046906&t=k&om=1|Google Maps]....

Did I promise a photo of the fisherman on Monona Bay? I meant to. I saw them on Thursday. This picture was taken Friday. Due to a technical glitch at the radio station, I was a little late for the sunset. Still, half light seems appropriate for ice fishing....

backyard snow

With the warmest year on record behind us, we can now comfortably relax into winter. No worries. It snowed. It's cold. We're fine, right?

I just heard the rumble of a passing snow plow. For my romantic mind, nothing says "stay inside and snuggle" more convincingly. So tonight, I blah-blah-blog with my warm laptop.
