It's been raining for days. Honest, soggy, Portland rain. But today, the sun came out. And [w:Mount Tabor (Oregon)|Mt. Tabor Park] was brimming with activity. I've been working on a story on the park and learning the history of my neighborhood. It's fascinating stuff. Mt. Tabor's Reservoir 1 was built in 1894 to hold the city's drinking water from the Bull Run watershed and is still in operation today. As part of an MLK service day, students from Portland colleges were picking up trash around the park and the reservoirs. Turned in a paper this afternoon and on the way to catch a bus home thought, "Today would be a great day to catch a matinee."
I've been meaning to see a matinee at one of the downtown theaters for months. Seriously, too long. It was now or never. So, I grabbed some portable spring rolls from a nearby Vietnamese food cart and ducked into see [w:The Brothers Bloom].
Yeah! Perfect matinee fare: Beautiful actors! Stylish costumes! Hip, noirish production design! Amazing locations! Huge explosions! And it's all about con men! What's not to love?!?
This is a city of pink blossoms. Sure there are white ones, some orange, red, and yellow, but pink is everywhere. Here's a photo of one of the rhododendrons growing in front of my apartment. I took the picture last night after a delicious dinner at a newish Ethiopian restaurant in my neighborhood. So many lovely warm red spices in the food. The sun light was at a warm angle, too. I don't know ... it all came together for me.
Nothing more for today.
Portland posed in her Easter finest today. I took the bus and the yellow line max.
Many things to [http://www.flickr.com/photos/pollyannamedia/|photograph].
I spaced posting last night. So, here's what I had in mind; I took this photo somewhere after Tacoma heading north. Yeah, I shopped it a little. It was shot through a train window.
School's been keeping me busy. The autumn colors are amazing this week. I've posted a few photos on [http://www.flickr.com/photos/pollyannamedia/|Flickr]. I intend to post something new here soon, but I've also got two mid-terms to write this weekend.
Another turn of season.... Not much blogging happening here these days. I've started watching [:squirrels] again, so watch out.
